Warriors give Kerr contract extension

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has received a contract extension following the franchise's repeat championship and third title in four years during his tenure.

Kerr and general manager Bob Myers, who are close friends and colleagues, said when the season ended that something would get done quickly once they began formal discussions. Kerr had one year remaining on his original $25 million, five-year contract. Details of the extension were not announced Tuesday.

"We're excited to have Steve under contract and poised to lead our team for the next several years," Myers said in a statement released by the team. "Under his guidance, we've been fortunate enough to win three NBA titles in four years and his ability to thrive in all facets of his job is certainly a primary reason for our success. He's a terrific coach, but more importantly an incredible human being."

Lakers' Ball has left knee surgery

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

The team said the procedure on Tuesday was successful and Ball is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp in September.

Lakers' Hart named summer league MVP

LAS VEGAS (AP) Josh Hart wasn't around to see the conclusion of the summer league as he was ejected from the championship game after criticizing the officials.

The Lakers fell short in the title game, losing to Portland 91-73 on Tuesday night.

Grizzlies get Kings' Temple for McLemore

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) The Memphis Grizzlies have acquired guard Garrett Temple from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for guard Ben McLemore, center Deyonta Davis, a future second-round pick and cash considerations.

Temple, 32, scored a career-high 8.4 points per game and shot 39.2 percent from 3-point range this past season. The 6-foot-6 guard also averaged 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 24.8 minutes.

Pelicans sign Bluiett to 2-way contract

METAIRIE, La. (AP) The New Orleans Pelicans have signed Trevon Bluiett to a two-way contract after the rookie guard averaged 18.3 points in four NBA Summer League games.

The contract, announced by the club on Tuesday, means Bluiett will spend most of the season in the developmental G League, but can be called up periodically for a total of 45 days.

Durant wins at Humanitarian Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors and the U.S. women's hockey team were honored Tuesday night at the Sports Humanitarian Awards.

Durant won the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award, the U.S. women won the team award, and the WWE won the League Leadership Award at the fourth annual ceremony in downtown Los Angeles.

Bulls get Jabari Parker for $40M, 2 yrs.

CHICAGO (AP) Jabari Parker and the Chicago Bulls agreed Saturday to a $40 million, two-year contract, bringing the talented and oft-injured forward to his hometown team.

Agent Mark Bartelstein confirmed the deal shortly after the Milwaukee Bucks rescinded their qualifying offer. That made Parker an unrestricted free agent, clearing the way for him to join the rebuilding Bulls.

Nuggets ship Faried, Arthur to Nets

NEW YORK (AP) The Brooklyn Nets have acquired forwards Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur along with a 2019 first-round pick from the Denver Nuggets.

The Nets also received a second-round pick in 2020 in the trade announced Friday. They sent guard Isaiah Whitehead to Denver.
